Adjustable lounger
Technical field
This invention relates to furniture such as garden furniture, more particularly to a lounger, more particularly an adjustable lounger.
State of the art
A known lounger, for example marketed by ROYAL ΒΟΤΑΝΙΑ as XQI LOUNGER, comprises a frame with a support surface for supporting a person. The support surface is divided into a first part intended for supporting the lower legs of the person, a second part intended for supporting the upper legs of the person and hingedly connected to the first part, and a third part intended for supporting the person's lower legs. supporting the person's upper body and hingedly connected to the second part. The support surface is adjustable between different positions in which the person sits or lies more or less upright. At least the second part (upper legs) and the third part (upper body) are moved between two positions, whereby the angle between the parts becomes smaller as the lounger is brought more into a sitting position. The first part can be fixed or movable.
The construction of the known sun lounger is furthermore such that when the first position is moved to the second position, the second part pivots relative to the first part and thereby reduces the angle between the two parts on the underside of the lounger bed. The lounger further comprises retaining means for retaining the support surface in each of the series of positions. The first, second and third parts respectively comprise a first, second and third axis which extend at least partially through the frame and which are provided for tiltably attaching at least a part of the respective parts to the frame.
In the known adjustable lounger, the first and the second axis are equal to each other and are located along both the first and the second part along the hinged connection between the first and the second part.
These axes are also fixedly connected to the frame. The first axis is connected to the frame with a sliding connection. In such a configuration, the first part constantly remains in the same position with respect to the frame and the position of the upper body relative to the upper legs is constantly adjusted where the position of the lower legs relative to the upper legs is not or insufficiently changed.
Although such a lounger offers great freedom in adjusting the position of the first, second and third part, it is desirable to further improve the position of the lower legs relative to the upper legs.
Description of the invention
It is an object of this invention to provide a lounger in which a further improved positioning of the lower legs relative to the upper legs is achieved.
This object is achieved by means of the lounger that has the features of the first claim.
To this end, the first, second and third axis are different from each other.
It was determined that if the first, second and third axis are different from each other, the first part can also rotate relative to the second part and the frame. This makes it possible, for example, to rotate the second and third parts during rotation of the second part about the first axis relative to the frame. This makes it possible that in a second position the lower legs are no longer horizontal but are slightly bent downwards, so that a more pleasant sitting experience is obtained for the person in the second position.
It was also found that in such a configuration the first part does not have to be set separately, but is adjusted under the influence of the movement of parts two and three, partly depending on the degrees of freedom of the first, the second and the third part.
The second part is hingedly connected to the first part and the construction of the lounger is further such that when the first position is moved to the second position, the second part pivots relative to the first part and that the angle between the two reduces both parts on the underside (ie the side facing the ground) of the lounger, has the advantage that the legs of the person on the lounger are more folded supported in the more sitting position (s), which increases the sitting comfort entails.
Preferably, the respective axes of the respective parts are positioned such that they substantially do not, or even not, extend along the hinged connections between the different parts, but are substantially between, or even between, the hinged connections between the different parts.
According to preferred embodiments of the present invention, at least one, but more preferably at least two, of the shafts are movably included in a sliding connection provided in the frame. Preferably, two of the shafts are accommodated for displacement in a sliding connection in the frame and one fixed axle is included in a fixed position and fixed connection in the frame. This fixed axis can be both the first and the second and third axis. It was found that in such a configuration the degrees of freedom of the first, the second and the third part are limited such that their mutual position, for example determined by the angles α and β, is completely determined by the position of a single of the three parts. In this way, it becomes possible to adjust the position of the three parts by changing the position of a single of the three parts.
According to further preferred embodiments of the present invention, the fixed axis is the third axis. It was found that users of such sunbeds mainly want to adjust the position of the third part according to their wishes and that a more natural adjustment of the configuration of the first, second and third part is thus achieved in this way. Moreover, such a configuration has the advantage that the third part, on which usually the heaviest part of the weight of the person comes, is firmly connected to the frame, and that the second and / or first part, on which usually less weight comes, can be slidable. by means of one or two axes that shift in one or two sliding connections.
According to the present invention, one of the parts is connected to an adjusting mechanism to adjust the angle α between the first and the second part and / or the angle β between the second and the third part. The adjusting mechanism can for instance also comprise the retaining means. In this way it becomes possible, for example, to mechanically adjust the configuration of the first, second and third parts relative to each other in order to obtain a desired second position. This is possible, for example, by using a linear actuator, a hydraulic system, etc.
The adjusting mechanism can for instance also comprise the retaining means. In this way it becomes possible, for example, to mechanically adjust and hold the configuration of the first, second and third parts relative to each other in order to obtain a desired second position that does not change unintentionally.
According to preferred embodiments of the present invention, the adjusting mechanism is included in a foot of the frame. This makes it possible to hide the adjustment mechanism more, which makes the chair more aesthetic.
The adjusting mechanism is preferably a hydraulic adjusting mechanism since it was found that such a mechanism allows a simple adjustment of the parts relative to each other and also allows the first, the second and the third part to be kept relative to each other since such a hydraulic adjusting mechanism can also act as retaining means.
According to preferred embodiments of the present invention, the adjusting mechanism engages the first part, the second part or the third part at a position along the longitudinal direction of the supporting surface which is situated between the first, the second or the third axis on the one hand and a hinged one on the other hand. connection connecting the respective part with an adjacent part. It has been found that in such a configuration reduces the risk that the adjusting mechanism deforms the part to which it engages, since in such a configuration the position where the adjusting mechanism engages is situated between two relatively fixed points of the support surface.
According to further preferred embodiments of the present invention, the adjusting mechanism engages, for example, on the third part at a position along the longitudinal direction of the supporting surface which is situated on the one hand between the third axis and on the other hand the hinged connection between the third part and the second part.
According to preferred embodiments of the present invention, the first, the second and the third axis essentially lie in the first, the second and the third part, respectively.
Furthermore, the first axis is preferably substantially in the middle of the first part in the longitudinal direction of the support surface.
Furthermore, whether or not in combination with the preferred position of the first axis, the second axis is preferably substantially one-sixth of the length of the second part measured in the longitudinal direction from the support surface of the first part along the second part towards the third part.
Furthermore, whether or not in combination with the preferred position of the first and / or the second axis, the third axis is substantially one third of the length of the third part measured in the longitudinal direction of the supporting surface of the first part along the second part to the third part.
If the preferred position of the first and second and third axis is combined, it was found that a configuration in the second position of the first part, the second part and the third part is obtained which is judged as pleasant by persons. In particular when this configuration is combined with the preferred embodiment in which two of the shafts are movably accommodated in a sliding connection in the frame and one fixed axle is included in a fixed position and fixed connection in the frame.
According to preferred embodiments of the present invention, the respective lengths of the first, the second and the third part are matched to the respective lengths of a person's lower legs, upper legs and upper body.
In a preferred form, the first position is a completely flat position.
In a preferred form there is at least one intermediate position between the first and the second position.

The scope of an expression such as "a device comprising the means A and B" is therefore not only limited to devices that consist purely of components A and B. What is meant, on the other hand, is that, with regard to the present invention, the only relevant components A and B.
FIG. 1 and 3 show a preferred embodiment of the lounger 7 according to the invention in side view, respectively. perspective view. The lounger 7 has a frame 12, preferably essentially a metal frame, which preferably comprises four legs. However, any other material is possible, such as wood or treated wood. Optionally, two legs are provided with wheels to easily move the lounger 7 to and from a terrace or the garden. In FIG. 1, a portion of the frame 12 is not shown for illustrative reasons, so that the first 8, second 18, and third 28 axis are well visible.
The lounger 7 comprises a support surface 1, 2, 3 attached to the frame 12 intended for supporting a person, the support surface comprising a first part 1 provided for supporting the lower legs of the person, a second part 2 which is hinged is connected to the first part 1 and is provided for supporting the upper legs of the person, and a third part 3 which is hingedly connected to the second part 2 and is provided for supporting the upper body of the person.
The support surface 1, 2, 3 can be brought into a stable position, selected from a series of a predetermined number of positions with at least a first position (Figs. 1 and 3) for a more lying position of the person, and a second position (Fig. 2 and 4) for a more seated position of the person. The construction of the lounger 7 is such that when the first position is moved to the second position, the third part 3 pivots relative to the second part 2, the angle β between the two parts 2, 3 measured at the top of the lounger 7 reduces.
The lounger 7 further comprises retaining means for retaining the support surface 1, 2, 3 in each of the positions. The retaining means can for instance comprise a positioning element and a displaceable support, wherein the positioning element comprises, for example, a plurality of slots which determine the series of positions and wherein the support forms a connection between the third part 3 of the support surface, for example, when placed in one of the slots. 1, 2, 3 and the rectangular element. Such a configuration is for example shown and discussed in the previously filed Belgian patent application 2011/0539. However, such a configuration is not necessary for the present invention and the retaining means may also be in the form of the shafts themselves, if there is sufficient friction, for example. Also, the shafts can, for example, be fixed with respect to the frame 12 by, for example, fixing one or more of the shafts.
The first position of the lounger 7 is preferably a horizontal position, with an angle β between the second and third surface 2, 3 of substantially 180 °.
In the second position, i.e. a more seated position, the angle β is, for example, substantially equal to 90 °, but other angles are also possible, eg 100 ° or 110 ° or 120 ° or 130 ° or more.
The second part 2 is hingedly connected to the first part 1, and the construction of the lounger 7 is such that when the first (more lying) position is moved to the second (more sitting) position, the second part 2 pivots relative to reduces the first part 1 and thereby reducing an angle α between the two parts 1, 2 measured on the underside of the lounger 7. In the first position, this angle α is preferably substantially equal to 180 ° for obtaining a horizontal position of the support surface formed by the flat parts 1,2,3.
As shown in the figures, the first 1, second 2 and third 3 parts respectively comprise a first 8, second 18 and third 28 axis which extend at least partially through the frame 12 and which are provided around at least a part of the respective parts 1 , 2, 3 tiltable to attach to the frame. The first 8, second 18 and third 28 axes are different from each other.
Figure 2 shows that two of the axes, namely the first axis 8 and the second axis 18, are movably received in a sliding connection 11, 21 in the frame 12 and one fixed axis, namely the third axis 28, is received at a fixed position and fixed connection 31 in the frame 12. However, such a configuration is not necessary for the present invention and alternative embodiments in which another axis is the fixed one, for example the first axis 8 or the second axis 18, or in which all three axes 8, 18, 28 are included in a sliding connection, etc. are possible.
Figure 2 shows that at least one of the parts 1, 2, 3, namely the third part 3, is connected to an adjusting mechanism 29 around the angle α between the first 1 and the second 2 part and / or the angle β between the second 2 and the third 3 part. However, an adjustment mechanism is not necessary for the invention and the angles can, for example, also be adjusted purely manually. Also, the engagement location of the adjustment mechanism 29 is not necessary for the present invention, and the adjustment mechanism 29 can also engage another part, for example the first 1 or the second 2 part.
The figures also show that the adjusting mechanism 29 is accommodated in a base 30 of the frame 12. However, the adjusting mechanism 29 can also be accommodated in a completely visible place at a different location.
As shown in Fig. 1, the part on which the adjusting mechanism 29 engages comprises a protrusion 32 which protrudes into the opening of the foot 30 where the protrusion 32 is connected to the adjusting mechanism 29. Preferably, the opening provided in the foot 30 for this purpose has a shape which in line with the movement of protrusion 32 running through it. Since the third part 3 in the embodiment shown merely performs a rotational movement about the third axis 28, the opening in the embodiment shown has the shape of a circular slot.
The adjusting mechanism 29, although not shown, may for example be hydraulic with the movement of a rod in a hydraulic cylinder rotating the first part 1 about the third axis 28 because the rod engages the third part 3, for example because the rod engages the protrusion 32 in the foot 30.
Figure 2 shows that the adjusting mechanism 29 engages the third part 3 at a position along the longitudinal direction of the support surface which is situated on the one hand between the third shaft 28 and on the other hand the hinged connection between the third part 3 and the second part 2. This however, it is not necessary for the present invention and the adjusting mechanism 29 can also engage in a different position along the longitudinal direction of the support surface, for example a position on the other side of the third shaft 28.
It is shown that the first 8, the second 18 and the third axis 28 are essentially in the first 1, the second 2 and the third 3 parts, respectively. However, this is not necessary for the present invention and the first 8, the second 18 and the third axis 28 can, for example, also lie substantially below or above the first 1, the second 2 and the third 3 part.
As shown in, for example, Figure 2, the first axis 8 is preferably substantially in the middle of the first part 1 in the longitudinal direction of the supporting surface, and furthermore, the second axis 18 is substantially one-sixth of the length of the second part 2 measured in longitudinal direction of the supporting surface from the first part 1 along the second part 2 to the third part 3 and furthermore the third axis 28 is substantially one third of the length of the third part 3 measured in the longitudinal direction of the supporting surface of the first part 1 along the second part 2 to the third part 3. However, such a configuration is not necessary for the invention and the shafts can also assume other positions which can be further determined by the skilled person in function of the desired positions of the supporting surface of the lounger 7 .
The first, second and third parts 1, 2, 3 are preferably covered with plastic, to provide a relatively soft surface on which the person can sit or lie comfortably.
